Devastation

10_2005gpusa212By the time storm got over, the 80% of the city had already submerged in water. In fact, many buildings had gone completely sunk in the water with the height of 20 feet. Most of the trees had gone broken and the roads were full of floating cars. The hideous sight everywhere fuelled wrath in the mass. The then U.S. president George Bush had declared the hurricane to be an Emergency disaster but it was too late according to the public. Hence, the public took to the road and demonstrated their anger. The violence had engulfed the entire country. Now the job of officers got doubled. Not only they had to rescue lives but also curb violence spreading in the area. Sergeant Maroney being one of them who was entrusted with this difficult job employed all his skills to help the hurricane victims.

Stranded

Sergeant Maroney worked his finger to the bone while searching for the stranded people. Many had given up on their lives while waiting and many were struggling to get help. Though the rescue team was taking extra care while searching for people in need, there were a great fraction of people whose cry for help got subsided in the tragic winds of the hurricane.

Scarier Than Nightmare

Maroney had been in New Orleans for many days and perceiving the gravity of the situation he knew he was going to stay here for a longer time. No need to say the grief-filled surrounding had affected the soldiers as thick skinned as Maroney. He in his life had never seen so many people screaming and weeping at the same time. What was worst than that was seeing people dying for being weak and poor. Unfortunately, there was no one who could help him get out of his misery. He missed his family like never before.

Taking A Toll

The soldier’s day was full of scared faces and the night full of nightmares. Due to lack of sleep and emotional support he began to slip into the sulk. The negative feelings had suck energy out of his body. Though despite all the psychological obstacles he continued fulfilling his duty. He would go out with the breaking of dawn and search for people and families in need. Little did he know, his search was going to get him on a never imagined journey.

Another Family

katrina_rescue_On the day in question, he was patrolling on his helicopter looking for stranded people. There was no way they could take on the path of the road as water had taken over everything. Sergeant Maroney had already helped many people on that day and was looking for more helpless people. It was then he spotted a bunch of people waving their hands frantically towards their helicopter. Maroney directed the pilot to get the helicopter in that direction.

Trapped

It was a family who had been trapped in their own home for days. Due to the lack of any transporting means, the family chose to stay at home. And now their decision had backfired. The storm had swollen their house forcing the family to stay on the roof of their home. Furthermore, they had run out of food and other necessary items. That is why when they saw the helicopter buzzing above their house they made every possible attempt to catch the attention of rescuers. Finally, they succeeded. Maroney was heading towards them not knowing his decision to help this family was going to change his life forever.
