Destroyed In Seconds

It took the ship only a few minutes to get broken into pieces. The falling of the ship was a big setback to the people of Sweden. The ship had contained a huge stock of silver and gold coins that had the potential to transform the future of the country. But now, all of them had gone tucked inside the Baltic Sea.

A Myth That Lives On

Though the ship got broken into pieces, there was a myth associated with it that lived on. The myth began with the beginning of the ship. It is said that the greedy King Erik XIV wanted to have the most amazing vessel in the entire world. And for that reason, he forcefully took away the bells from Catholic Church and melted them in order to construct cannons for the ship. This is considered one of the prime reason behind the fall of Mars.

Insane King

King Eric XIV was very intelligent but at the same time, he was called insane by the people. Not only the king liked war but he also used to slay people living in his kingdom and never showed any mercy in killing his enemies. The man once even had feelings for Elizabeth I but she denied.

 Ghost Stories Prevent Discovery

Mars has always whetted people’s curiosity after it burnt down. One of the reason is the number of myths that are associated with it. Since then many people tried to unravel the mystery tied with it but unfortunately failed each and every time. Be it archeologists, treasure hunters, historians etc have tried their best to know more about the ship but could not get what they needed.

Not Even A Trace

Initially, the scientists could not get a trace of the Mars. Not only that, each time they would go on an expedition to look for the ship, they would come back with another story or myth. Surprisingly, no matter how much everyone tried, nobody succeeded in finding even the trace of the ship. It seemed that the ship itself was not willing to be discovered. As if it was waiting for some special person to discover it.

Finally Finding The Lost Ship

Many centuries went by and lastly, in 2011, Lungren and its team managed to locate the pieces of battleship laid around the coast of Swedish Island, Öland. The ship was lying down 246 feet down the water level and with a tilt towards the right. Amazingly, the ship managed to withstand the inclemency of time for so many centuries.
