Failed Again?

The elephant was still looking him in the eye. Initially, it seemed McSmith’s attempts would not do much or would probably provoke the elephant more. But his hat doffing attitude and the efforts did bear a favorable result! The elephant that once seemed insurmountable had cowed down before the dominance of McSmith. He began to step aside and gradually he was out of sight. They finally made it! But was the elephant really gone or something was still waiting for him? Check that out in the following video on the next slide.

Getting Out Of It

The elephant ran back to the wild. Both the explorers were still having their heart beating fast. They still could not believe that they were out of danger and that they managed to pull it off. It is worth mentioning here that McSmith maintained a positive attitude throughout the time and it was only his confidence in himself that helped him to deal with a situation as tragic as this. As they say what matters the most is not the situation but your attitude! And this incident is the testament to that. So, finally, we have that video which will surely blow your mind off.

Video

The bravery of McSmith was recorded on their camera. He uploaded the video onto YouTube for the public to see. Along with uploading the video, he did not forget to warn the viewers to not repeat his action in the same situation. He explained in the comment box of the video “The video, filmed on a wilderness trail, is a one-in-a-million encounter. It is authentic and the elephant is wild, not trained. Neither are there any AK47s, snipers or nuclear warheads behind me,”

Unwanted Confrontation

He added “As a wilderness guide I strive to avoid confrontations with wild animals, and in 30 years of guiding, have never deliberately provoked one. The default reaction of wild animals, including big game, is to avoid encounters with humans, With all the hindsight in the world, would not have done anything differently. I did not get myself into a situation, I got myself and our trail party out of one. How evenly the bull walks away at the end, comfortable enough to turn his back on us, is a testament to this.”

Word Of Caution

He also warned people to not to do what he did because it is not always a right thing to do. He clarified “I would NEVER suggest that anyone tries this! If you are a guide then I urge you to use extreme caution whilst walking . . . Therefore I urge you all to look beyond and recognize the significance of meaningful wilderness encounters. With that, he also emphasized on the importance of the relationship between the nature and human “That modern man still shares a kinship with the wild. That our natural world … and its conservation … is absolutely essential to our well-being.”

Environment And Us

“That in order to maintain our own respect and dignity, we must treat our environment in the same way. My message is about a transformative view of elephant awareness. And wilderness conservation. It is time to view these animals through a different lens, a lens that also incorporates our own wholeness and sacred attitudes. The encounter was after all about the elephant, not me.” Alan wrote while shedding light on the significance of environment in our lives.
