Australian Cattle Dogs NowIt wouldn’t be wrong to call them survivors as they are one of the oldest dogs in the world. Another fascinating fact is that in 1910 one of them was born that kept on chasing sheep for about 20 years. There is a real story about an Australian cattle dog named Sophie who struggled through many hardships in 2009 According to Rebecca O’Connell. “While on a boat with her family off the coast of Queensland, Australia, the dog was thrown off when the craft hit a rough wave. The resilient pup swam five miles back to shore and ended up on St. Bees Island, an island inhabited mostly by wild horses. Sophie managed to stay alive by hunting feral goats. Eventually, she was nabbed by a ranger and reunited with her family.” Perhaps she managed to go through so many hardships because of her highly energetic and active mind temperament.

Unlike Chow Chows, this breed was bred to accompany in hunting. They were used to hunt wild boars. They were quite successful in it as their spiking fur and loose skin enabled them to move out of a boar’s hold. Their this uniqueness also made them fighting dogs. Meat mouth the western version of Shar-Pei share very few commonalities with the Chinese version that is called “bone mouth.” They have been ranked 134th in the American Kennel Club. They have a lifespan of 10-12 years.

The western version of Shar-Pei is very chubby and that makes the breeders heap the excess dermatological surface area on dogs. The hobby of humans became a bane for this breed as due to this they become open to skin infections. American Shar Peis comes from “bone mouth.” They have been regarded as the world’s rarest breed by the TIME magazine and Guinness world of record in 1978. It was only in 1992 that this breed got recognized by American Kennel Club. Their coat is very rough to touch as they are very spiky and off standing.They have small triangle ears and high set tail. Worst they have the tendency of getting obese. So if you have Shar- Pei do not forget to take them for a walk every day. 

St. Bernard: Then

St. Bernards ThenThe St. Bernard were brought by the ancient Roman from western alp region, these dogs are thought to be the descendants of molosser type dogs. The monks and passerby when passes through great st bernard pass in swiss alp lead by the modern st bernard descend from the canine hero. The most famous St Bernard was Barry who saved between 40 to 100 people at the pass they were not trained by the monks they learned their trade from their ancestors or old dogs. Earlier St. Bernard was known for its legendary and heroic image. It was the hero of Alpine but today’s St. Bernard is different from earlier. The original St Bernard was killed by the avalanche and therefore, Newfoundlands were imported to make the breed that is the reason there’s a huge difference between today’s St. Bernard and earlier St. Bernard. They are done with their job of being the rescuers in Alpine as the new dogs were incapable to carry out rescue operation because of their vast size and heavy coat which rescue them and make them incapable.New St. Bernard suffers from ailment because of its bloated skin narrow snout and the heavy coat. They are prone to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. They also run the risk of developing epilepsy and seizures.

German Shepherd: Then

German Shepherds ThenThe German Shepherd began to breed in the nineteenth century. The Phylax Society was formed of shepherds that wanted to breed a sheep herding dog. But soon, the society broke as they had a different opinion regarding what to keep, more importantly, beauty or working ability. Max von Stephanitz the former member of the group was all certain to breed a perfect German Shepherd though there was no need for this breed in highly urbanized society. Stephanitz made lots of efforts and eventually succeeded in breeding Beowulf, the predecessor of all the German Shepherds.
