Several months had passed by with men surviving on the carcasses Alvarenga used to catch with his newfound technique. But the question was how long were they going to survive on this. There was also a time when they had to eat their own fingernails to keep their body and soul together. It was not the end of their decree, once Alvarenga had to swallow jellyfish that he caught. It almost burnt his throat but he had no other choice. They even ate garbage passing their boat that included some chewed gum, cabbage, rotten carrots and other edible things.
