Another Goal

As the foundation had been built for the rescuing of the landfill dogs. Hence, the organization had most of its resources used in the rescue of hundreds of dogs staying in the landfill. By the time the team came to know about these five dogs, they had a major part of their resources utilized. Despite the lack of resources, the foundation decided to help them. It is admirable as the foundation had transcended the boundaries to save the animals. But saving these five dogs was going to be a bit difficult for the two.

Only Way Out

Crystal Carson describes the condition of the dogs when she saw them for the first time. She said  These dogs were huddled together to stay warm, and probably feel secure. When they were not spread out on the tarp, the puppies would crawl under slabs of concrete to remain in seclusion where they were least bothered by a constant barrage of traffic horns, strangers, and whatnot.”

What’s The Problem?

As Carson was residing in Texas, U.S, she had to find someone local from Iskilip who could easily help the dogs. But finding someone local to provide help was more difficult than she thought. It is not that nobody wanted to help the dogs but the rescuers hesitated from getting closer to this particular bunch. These small puppies had been facing the inclemency of nature for more than a week and their miserable condition had brought them to this.

Life-Threatening Disease

The puppies had developed mange. It is a communicable disease that is caused by mites. These dogs had been residing in the contaminated environment for long and due to that, they had caught this dangerous disease. Carson explainsMost rescuers didn’t want to pick up the puppies for fear that they’d infect other dogs in their care.” The rescuers were hesitant to touch this group as they did not want other dogs to be infected by it. In order to save them, they would need to touch them and touching them might be very risky.

The Saviour

Woman holding one of the puppiesIt was not easy to find someone who would take care of these mange infected dogs. But Carson continued searching. And after three weeks, finally, someone came forward to help the dogs. The person after picking the dogs from the roadside took them to the veterinary in Ankara, Turkey. After seeing the miserable condition of the dogs, the vet immediately started treating them. Their condition was indeed very pathetic. Carson says “Without intervention, they surely would have died all alone on the streets. So we made an exception for this bunch.”

Flying Down To Turkey

Crystal Carson usually operates from the US. But after perceiving the poor state of the highway dogs she decided to fly over to Turkey. She explained that the dogs were left on the tarp spread over a median strip on the highway of Isikilip. She was amazed at the spirit of the dogs. Despite, constant hunger and spine-chilling cold, they tried hard to survive. It could be because of their survival instincts that are usually found in dogs living in packs.
