They had gained proficiency in almost everything. Viking ships too had gained a name for its speed and ferocious nature. They would use their ship in battles and in travelings too.  However, the use was not limited to these two only. The Vikings would take out their ships while fishing in the big seas. It may interest you to know that the Vikings used to hunt enormous aquatic animals like Whales and walrus. And they used to do it on a regular basis.

A Healthy Diet

Vikings had a balanced diet. Their diet included grains, berries, nuts, honey, fruits, meat, eggs, cheese, and other dairy products. This is amazing how even today this Scandinavian diet is followed by many people. Many of them who are allergic to gluten can follow this Viking diet.

The Vikings were fun loving people. They loved celebrating every now and then. Towns or villages of those time had a central hall in which the elders would meet to decide upon important matters. The hall served a dual purpose not only it was a discussion hall but also a dance hall during ceremonies and events. Be it a wedding, a day of commemoration or a spiritual fest they all would take place in this central hall. The Vikings on the days of celebration would load their system with beer or mead, prepare for food, and shake legs till the wee hours.     

Traders and Entrepreneurs

Though the Vikings did raid it was not the only thing they used to do to earn money. There were many other sources of income as well. In days of peace, the Vikings would wear many hats such as of a settler, trader. Along with that, they would also take up an entrepreneurial job towards other towns or settlements coming in their path.   

The Slave Trade

The Vikings had a well-planned strategy for wars. After conquering the battle they would take the survivors along with them to the encampment as slaves. Impressively, the slaves were not subjected to unnecessary violence. In fact, they were given the opportunity to lead a peaceful life with the Vikings. Sometimes the Vikings would make money by selling these slaves off.        

Daring Sailors

The Vikings did not limit themselves to land only, they expanded their dominance to seas as well. People of this society had a knack for constructing strong and large boats. These boats had the capacity of surviving storms and when the wind sails in their favor they would fly like a bird. The longboats were equipped with oar stations to enhance its speed. They also had metallic naval rams that would help in sinking other boats.
