Bleached Blondes

Vikings were not blonde. They originally owned brown or darker brown hair. However, they used to bleach or dye their hair at regular intervals to have their distinctive sense of identity. Gradually, it consolidated into common practice. They inculcated it in their culture that soon began to be counted as one of their features. This is how they became to be remembered as blonde haired.

The Creative Edge

Did you know that the Vikings were full of well-versed artists? We usually believe that major artwork of classical art originated from Rome, France, and Greece but not many people know that Vikings too have a big role to play here. However, their creativity does not click our mind when thinking about the pre-renaissance art. It would be unfair to say that they did not have remarkable creations of art. There have been many beautiful paintings of theirs that is still embellishing their history.

Fashion Sense

As far as fashion is concerned they were equally impressive in this field too. Much to our surprise, the Vikings had a great sense of fashion. They were not mud covered people nor did they used to drape old and shabby cloth or animal furs. They did not even put on dirty leather boots. The researchers have discovered belt buckles made of gold, jewelry, headgear, and ornamental necklace that suggests that the Vikings were very much into fashion and used to spend a large fraction of their time in designing of their wardrobes.

The Sacking Of Paris

By the time 800s entered, the Vikings had made a formidable reputation of their own. They had established themselves as a frightening foe. The news regarding their pillages had reached every nook and cranny of Europe. A large part of Europe was under their fear. By then Vikings had grown into a more daring and confident group thanks to their previous successful raids. What’s worse, in 84 they displayed their power by sacking the whole of Paris. The Vikings agreed to leave the Paris only after they were given a tremendous amount of 5,670 pounds of gold.

Soft As Kittens

You may think that the Vikings were brutal, insensitive, and greedy.  But that was not the case. They were quite sensible by nature. When they were not busy out searching for food, spreading fear in neighbor cities or voyaging in the disturbed sea, they used to spend their free time with their families. According to the new findings, Vikings were fond of kittens too and they used to pet them.

Onion Soup

Not to mention that they used to get wounded more than often as a large portion of their lives would revolve around raids and wars. In case of injury, they used to fall upon herbal medicines to treat the injuries. They had their own way of making medicines. They had a long list of herbal and ritualistic medicines that they would put in use while tending to wounds. One of them was giving the wounded onion soup. They used to find out the severity of a wound by this. The gravity was understood after the soup was smelled by the wounded fighter.
