Candy Glass Still Hurts!

Marv Merchants Stepping on Christmas Ornaments - Home Alone

If you thought Stern’s screams sounded real as he steps on the Christmas ornaments as he climbs through the window, that is probably because they were! Even though he was stepping on candy glass, it was still very painful. He was not expecting it to hurt so much but he even had to wear rubber costume feet during the rest of his barefoot scenes!

An Improvised Chicken

Harry Lime Covered in Feathers - Home Alone

We all remember the moment the Wet Bandits meet inside the house. Harry asks “Why the hell did you take off your shoes?” when he sees what happened to Marv’s feet. Camera Angles on Kevin McCallister - Home Alone

Right after Harry and Marv meet, Kevin calls them from the stairs and tricks them to another sequence of painful events. Do you remember the line he used? “You guys give up, or are you thirsty for more?”. This is another of those we will always remember and it was improvised!

 About Old Man Marley

Old Man Marley - Home Alone

Even though Old Man Marley was not initially included in the script of Home Alone, he turned out to be a very important character. He saved Kevin and taught him the value of family and how appearance does not matter so much. His character was added by Chris Columbus to add to the sentimentality of the movie. Old Man Marley is based on the Jacob Marley character, which was the business partner of Scrooges on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Judo Over Acting?

Hillary Wolf as Megan McCallister - Home Alone

It is not everyone’s dream to become a famous actress. Hillary Wolf, the actress playing Megan, Kevin’s sister, was quite successful during her short acting career. That did not stop her from moving from acting to Judo in 1992. She even came first in her category in 1994 at the World Judo Championship and got to represent the USA at the Summer Olympics in 1996 and 2000.

The Polka Dot King of the Midwest

Gus Polinksi and Kate McCallister - Home Alone

Gus Polinksi is the man who helps Kate McCallister going home for her son, giving her a ride from Pennsylvania to Illinois. It was inspired by a character from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and played by John Candy. The most interesting part about his acting is that he shot all the scenes in 23 hours. Most of them had to be improvised. Some had to be thrown away and there was not even time for recording Gus and Kate saying goodbye.
