The fact that proves that Franklin was in an open relationship with his wife Eleanor is that the latter was aware of his husband’s affair with Lucy Mercer. Political reasons played a big part in keeping Eleanor and Franklin together. This also gave Eleanor the opportunity to work for social causes. Franklin passed away from Polio.
