Since the scientists were mostly geological experts, they already made a few predictions as to what they might find under the earth. Like we had mentioned earlier, they assumed that the rock under the ground turns from granite to basalt 4 miles underneath the earth’s surface. But very soon they learned that this was not the case at all. Well, at least on the Kola Peninsula it was not.
