The Undersea Adventures of Captain Nemo

“Captain Kangaroo” was responsible for introducing another captain called Captain Nemo. During the 70s this Canadian cartoon ran as a 5-minute segment. It was a show about Captain Mark Nemo and two of his assistants, Christine and Robbie. Their adventures included their nuclear-powered submarine named Nautilus and the journey they had on it.

Cosmo Allegretti

Cosmo Allegretti was an important Captain Kangaroo cast member. The actor-puppeteer used many of his puppets on “Captain Kangaroo.” His characters like Mr. Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, Dennis the Apprentice, Miss Frog, Mr. Whispers, Dancing Bear, Grandfather Clock, and Uncle Ralph. He first started as a painter on set but soon became the puppet master for the show.

Hugh Brannum

An important person on the “Captain Kangaroo” tv show was Hugh Brannum. Hugh played many different characters like New Old Folk Singer, Percy, Uncle Backwards, Mr. McGregor, and Mr. Bainter the Painter on the show. His most popular role would however be Mr. Green Jeans, who was Captain Kangaroo’s next door neighbor who was a farmer.

Dolly Parton Was A Guest Star

The show even had a very famous star to have a guest appearance on the season 21, episode 3, of the show. It was none other than country doll Dolly Parton herself. She did the opening greeting for the show and later sang a duet with the Captain where she could barely hold her laughter.

Bill Cosby had also appeared in “Captain Kangaroo” during the 1980s as the host of “Picture Pages.” The segment was aimed at educated kids the basics of arithmetic, geometry, and drawing. With the use of Mortimer Ichabod Marker or M.I, Cosby would teach the children…

Slim Goodbody would be broadcast two times a week on “Captain Kangaroo” in between  1976 to 1980. John Burstein brought the character to life wearing a flesh-colored unitard that had on organs of the body correctly placed across his whole body. The segment taught children about anatomy and bodily functions.
