Something Wrong

Many researchers have pointed out in their studies, the geographical traits that this portion of the earth has. The Antarctic has been existing under extreme climatic changes and fluctuations which is pretty much the main reason why it is melting so much.

This then makes the icebergs break apart, So recently, after around 12 years, the reason for the icebergs falling apart has been uncovered. It is certainly a surprising realization too…

The Climatic Waves

The changing direction of climate currents is one of the main factors that has caused all these incidents to happen. It is not some magical or extraterrestrial source that is causing these icebergs to fall off. The sudden breakages happened because of the climatic currents or waves. Scientists have concluded that the warm currents and increasing temperatures are the making a climatic disturbance that has led to this strange phenomenon. There were other very unusual discoveries made by the scientists…

The Unknown

After looking into the sediments and examining the Larsen B region, the scientists found a discovery that startled them all. They did not expect to uncover anything much but their discovery of an ecosystem about 2600 feet underneath the ice sheets in the ocean gave them the shock of their lives. Uncovering an entire ecosystem with biodiversity under the freezing temperatures in the ice was something nobody ever expected to find.  The  Mysterious Antarctic was starting to make sense of the name given to it…

More Discoveries

When 2017 came around, there was another set of ice sheets that researchers decided to explore in the month of July. This was again given the name ” Larsen C” which was thought to be the oldest and the largest ice shelves that Antarctica had. Scientists did their best to figure out the mystery that this ice sheet had or was hiding. They did not expect to find these startling discoveries at all…

The Big Drift

The newly discovered Larsen C section is indeed a large plot of land. It was covering a whopping area of about 2240 square miles. The land was shifting and the drift causes it to become a gigantic individual sheet. The cause of this drift is still unknown and has cooked up loads of questions too…

This incredible drift resulted in tons of ice falling into the clutches of the Weddell sea. There was some other breath-taking thing that it left behind.

Other Surprises

The Larsen C drift has resulted in an exposure of the surface a part of the seafloor. This was something that the scientists and the researchers had never seen nor explored, so it was an amazement for all. This uneven and freezing seafloor had not seen life, getting separated form any living being for years. Little did these scientists know that their previous understanding and calculations were about to be shattered by a pleasant surprise while studying the Larsen C.
