Why she needed to share the story was because she hoped that someone out there would somehow find an inspiration to do the same and help out any war veteran they meet. Since they had served the country during their time, she felt a sense of owing to them. She also had a curiosity to know how many times the old man in the wheelchair had struggled on his journey to get to Walmart.
