Antonio Banderas is perhaps the most well-known Spanish actor in Hollywood. He actually had his heart set on becoming a soccer star, that is, until he broke his foot. He then ventured into acting and was even arrested for staging a political play under the regime of Spanish General Franco. After he moved to Madrid, he played a number of small roles in films, until he was discovered by director Pedro Almodovar, and was launched to stardom.
