The Peace Pipe

It was this sacred Peace Pipe he was looking for and when he heard that it was put on an auction he knew what he has to do before he could complete his plan. The peace pipe holds a very interesting tale with it that involves a dispute between the US army and Native Americans. No tale is as interesting as this one. This tale makes this pipe an extraordinary item and only a few know about it. The story about this pipe is about century year old and you’ll see why this was such a big issue that caught everybody’s attention. We should be grateful to this anonymous bidder who made sure that people know about it. But what was his plan with this pipe? You’ll find out soon.

A Little History Lesson

Before we move further with this guys’ plan, let’s take a little tour back in the time that made this pipe so significantly important. Back in the late 19th century, there was a dispute over certain territory between the US soldiers and the Native Americans. The man named, White Dog, a Native American Sioux Chief, was under the captivity of the US soldiers, and it was then during his time in jail, the Chief started working on this peace pipe. He didn’t know that he would carve out something exceptional that would change the course of history. This beautiful artifact managed to survive for this long until it resurfaced in 2018, at Boston auction house.

We Come In Peace

White Dog was from the Mdewakanton tribe, who had lived peacefully for generations until some American settlers took their lands by force and pushed the tribe from the land they owned. The tribe never saw themselves as combative. “We are a peaceful people and very resilient, we bounce back from anything,” one of the tribe members explained. This artifact survived the six-week-long war that destroyed everything in front of it. This artifact was destined for something big and soon it fulfilled its destiny through this man.

A Peaceful Trade-Off

This pipe even has a name, it was called the Catlinite peace pipe. The White Dog presented this pipe to his captor, Lieutenant King. The White Dog had a very peaceful intention in his mind when he gifted this pipe, that had some beautiful carvings of arrows, animals, and birds. But what made this pipe more beautiful was the large Thunderbird. This pipe was considered sacred among the tribe and gifting it to the American soldiers was a gesture of peace. But, it didn’t go the way the Native Americans expected.

No Interest In Peace

The US Army wasn’t looking for peace and on December 26, 1862, 38 Dakota men, in which White Dog was also present, were hanged after the army defeated the Dakota warriors. According to the historians, this act of execution was the biggest and cruelest in the history of America. The remaining people from the tribe were sent to concentration camps, and all of their belongings and possessions were destroyed but the Catlinite peace pipe survived.

Journey Of Peace

Since the 1880s the Catlinite peace pipe had been in an American family and this artifact which signified the peace was now homed in Boston. This unknown buyer of this artifact now holds the symbol of peace and harmony and his plan for this item changed everything around us. We, humans, are seriously mysterious by nature. Nobody can imagine what the next person in front of you is capable of doing. What this anonymous buyer did be something unimaginable.
