Moving To Basha

She moved to Basha High School, where she continued to hone her skills and improve her technique under the guidance of Alex Zendejas. Like polishing a diamond, she excelled in the sport with constant guidance. It soon became Becca and her father’s goal to pursue football at college-level. The novelty of a female kicker caught the attention of head football coach at Adams State, Timm Rosenbach…

A Fateful Visit

With successful career playing for her varsity football team at Basha High School her senior year, Becca was proving to be unstoppable. This made the offensive coordinator of Adams State University, Josh Blankenship, visit Longo to express his interest in joining their football team. But would they consider?

Won Over

On their visit to the University, the Longo Family was enticed by the facilities it had to offer. Noting Becca’s serious interest in the convenience of the campus grounds, Coach Rosenbach was won over by her determination. A scholarship offer followed the family’s visit. And that’s when she made history.

She Made History!

In April of 2017, Becca signed a letter of intent to play football for Adams State University. This event marked an achievement for the history books as she was the first female athlete to be offered a scholarship to play football at a Division II school. Despite having many female football players before her, she was the first one to be offered a scholarship for the sport!

Joining The Ranks

While she did make history, she is not the first one to do so. She is another female athlete to join the ranks of April Goss, Ashley Baker, Morgan Salzwedel, and Katie Hnida who have served as placekickers for their teams, a position which has the least amount of contact. But none of them played in Division II!

She Too Is A “First”

Longo is now part of the prestigious group of female athletes who were “firsts” in their respective sport’s fields, one for the history books! But while she is a remarkably achiever, that doesn’t mean she is any less easy on the field. She has her work cut out for her!
