The company was once a part of General Motors, but in 2010, it was acquired by AVIC Automobile Industry Holding Co., a subsidiary of state-owned aviation company Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
The acquisition, which marked one of the largest Chinese investments in the U.S. auto parts sector at the time, came with a commitment to protect jobs and maintain investment in Nexteer’s facilities.
