A Year Later

The team of researchers had been returning to the site quite a few times following their first exploration. And after just a year, the team was able to finally get through the huge rock wall. This then enabled them to get to the end of the cave’s wall. This was truly something that the team had wanted for a long while, so it was a huge sigh of relief.

And yet again, the cave managed to give them a surprise. After getting past the huge wall that obstructed their ability to do further research, the team found a way to get past it. And so, they could get to the side of the cave they were not able to before. The size of the cave once again left them amazed. It was official: Son Doong was definitely the largest cave in the world known to man.

Various Chambers

And there was another feature that the cave had that was special. This hidden cave has countless chambers too that they scientists discovered. Among these, the biggest chamber is over 3.1 miles long, 660 feet high, and 490 feet wide. From the measurement of this chamber, you can tell that the cave would have to be extremely huge to be able to house it.

And the cave was a place where a lot of other intriguing items were found. The more they looked around, the more the researchers were able to dig up. One other feature that was unique was the fact that the water eroding the walls of the cave gradually formed spectacular formations. These can be seen in the next photo are indeed something to adore.

Cave Pearls

Inside the cave, there are so many wonderful phenomena happening. Among them would definitely be these balls that you see here. Well, you must be wondering what these balls are if maybe they are baseballs? But these have actually been formed by the cave. They have been given the name “cave pearls” as they can be seen laying on the cave floor.

And there was a perfectly good explanation as to how these peculiar balls are formed. When the researchers found they, the inspected the place and found how they came into being. Each time the water fills with minerals drips down from the cave’s ceiling, it makes these small balls of mineral deposit. They then turn into these pearl-like balls.
