Little Bit Nervous

The boy looked at Travis hesitatingly and checked for the money in his pocket. He took out some coins and a few loose dollars. The kid was willing to spend all the money in his pocket for the frozen treat. This happens quite a lot of times when the customers pay all the money they’re left with for their favorite meals. But here it wasn’t just that.

Handed Over

“[The boy] was a little nervous that he didn’t have enough,” recalled Travis. The boy was getting uncertain about how much he has in total and he “just kind of ended up handing me everything that he had,” told Travis. He wanted the cashier to take a look and answer if it is enough or not. The thing doesn’t seem right. “It wasn’t enough,” told Travis Sattler.

Counting The Cash

Travis took the money with a generous smile and counted. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to buy the frozen treat. “He was maybe two dollars short,” told the cashier. So, now Travis knew that this is an issue. As a cashier, he knew he has to do something but what he had no clue.

Test

Travis thought what if it was a test. This possibly could be the test set up for him from his managers. Maybe they wanted to see how diversely he would behave or will he just panic and lose control of the situation? He knew if this was a test it could be his only chance to win his seniors’ hearts and trust.

What To Do Next?

Whatever it was, his priority was just one, to help this boy who hasn’t yet realized that the money he just handed over to the cashier is not enough. Denying a kid wasn’t what he wanted to do. In all the rush and thoughts going through his mind, he made a decision without caring if he’ll be criticized about it.

What Had He Done?

Travis turned around took his credit card out of his wallet and said to the guy, “It’s on me.” He recalls the boy having the brightest smile on his face. The kid has “the biggest eyes and just the widest smile” as Travis returned his money and gave him his treat. The boy was so happy that he ran towards his mother sitting on a corner table to tell what just happened with him.
