Cassowaries

Jurassic Park was a fictional movie but the way the movie showed the dinosaurs in a way we wouldn’t have ever imagined. Cassowaries can bring you close to the velociraptor. This amazingly beautiful prehistoric bird is tall, with a colorful head and neck and a crown kind of thing on his head. It has sharp feet and there have been incidents where they have attacked and killed people.

Where Are They Found?

Cassowaries have been around for over 60 million years. You can find them in northern Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Though they are pretty to look at, you should try to keep your distance if you spot one walking around the forest and don’t try to feed them. They aren’t that human-friendly by nature.

Caribou

Caribou is one of the most beautiful ancient creatures if you ask us. Just looking at them makes you wonder about the Ice Age period. Caribou was around much before humans when they arrived in Alaska. So, what is so special about this prehistoric creature? The fact that this is the only species of deer where females also grow antlers. Though they aren’t as big as the male’s antlers still, females use them to protect their guard pits and in the springtime, they fall off.

Caribou’s Story

They are mostly found in Alaska and Canada. You can take a park-operated bus trip in the Denali National Park where you can spot a few of them. But better be attentive while taking the pictures of this amazing creature as there are two other animals from the Ice Age living there, Dall sheep and brown bears.

Elephant Shrew

Elephant shrews are found majorly in the parts of Africa. They are small mammals which look similar to rodents or opossums. Surprisingly, they are close relatives of elephants. According to the oldest fossils records, the first ancestors of this amazing creature lived during Paleogene which was period between 66-23 million years ago.

Chambered Nautilus

The chambered nautilus lives in the depth of the ocean in Australia and Indonesia, but if you are in the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium in California than you are in luck because you can spot these amazing ancient creatures up-close. These alien-looking-weird-shaped aquatic animals are the oldest in the world. Fossils have been found that makes it over 500 million years old and surprisingly, they still look the same as they were reconstructed from the fossils. Are they alive?
